How We Help

Three distinct crises. One coordinated response.

We focus on three scenarios because they're the ones where homeowners most often slip through the cracks of ordinary consumer protection. Each requires specialized coordination — and that's what we provide.

Service 1

Botched Construction

A general contractor delivered defective work, left code violations behind, or caused damage to the property. You're trying to figure out whether to sue, where to file complaints, and how to get the work corrected without throwing more money at the problem.

What we do

  • Document the state of the project and catalog deficiencies with photo and video evidence
  • Review your contract for breach-of-contract claims and warranty obligations
  • Refer you to construction defect attorneys we've vetted
  • Help you file formal complaints with CSLB, the state contractor board, and local building departments
  • Coordinate licensed remediation contractors to quote and execute corrective work

What we don't

  • ×Represent you in court
  • ×Perform construction work ourselves
  • ×Guarantee outcomes in your specific case

Service 2

Failed ADU Builds

Your ADU project is stuck — maybe mid-construction, maybe mid-permit. The contractor walked, the permits got denied, the lender pulled funding, or what was built doesn't meet code. ADUs have regulatory and financial complexities that don't exist with standard remodels.

What we do

  • Audit your permit status and coordinate with the local jurisdiction to identify the path to completion
  • Review design and structural work to determine what can be salvaged vs. what needs rebuild
  • Connect you with ADU-specialized contractors, designers, and permit expediters
  • Navigate lender relationships if construction financing has been frozen or pulled
  • Advocate for you with municipal officials when permits are unreasonably delayed

What we don't

  • ×Serve as a general contractor for your project
  • ×Override jurisdictional requirements
  • ×Provide legal counsel on zoning disputes

Service 3

Financial Rescue & Foreclosure Prevention

A failed project has drained your reserves, or you're falling behind on your mortgage because of it. Foreclosure is on the horizon, or already in motion. You need time, options, and someone who understands how a construction crisis cascades into a financial one.

What we do

  • Connect you with HUD-approved housing counselors at no cost to you
  • Facilitate introductions to foreclosure defense attorneys when legal representation is needed
  • Help assemble loan modification, forbearance, and short-sale applications
  • Connect you with emergency assistance funds you may qualify for
  • Help evaluate whether a strategic sale, refinance, or hardship program makes sense

What we don't

  • ×Provide direct financial assistance or loans
  • ×Negotiate with lenders on your behalf (attorneys and counselors do that)
  • ×Guarantee you will avoid foreclosure — we help you fight for the best available outcome

Important

We are not a law firm.

Casita Restitution Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that coordinates services for homeowners. We do not provide legal advice, construction services, or financial advice. When you need those things, we connect you with licensed professionals who do.

Working with us does not create an attorney-client relationship, a contractor agreement, or a financial advisory relationship. Those relationships exist only between you and the professionals you ultimately hire.
